The famous and mysterious Bhangarh Fort of Rajasthan was built in the 17th century by "Bhagwant Das" for his younger son "Raja Madho Singh", younger brother of the great Mughal general "Man Singh of Amber". The Fort is located 50 kilometers from Sariska Sanctuary between the city of Jaipur and Alwar. The fort is considered to be one of the most hunted and cursed places in India. There are several myths associated with this fort, but two of them are the most heard. The first mythology is the curse of the sadhu name Baba Balau Nath, it is said that the king decides to construct the fort in Bhangarh and the area was the meditating spot of Baba Balau Nath. The sadhu gave his permission on one condition that the fort or any building within should not be shadowed upon his house, as it would result in the destruction of the whole town. Ajab Singh, the grandson of Raja Madho Singh, seems to have ignored this warning and raised the heights of the fort, as a result, the shadow fell on Sadhu's house, which leads to the desolate whole town.
The second mythology pertains to Princess Ratnavati, who was very beautiful and had several royal suitors for marriage. One day Princess went to the local market with her friends shopping and a wizard, skilled with black magic, fell in love with her. He saw the princess buying 'ittar' for her and then replaced it with the love potion. The princess somehow came to know about the wizard wile and threw the potion on the ground which then transformed into a rock and rolled toward the wizard and crushing him to death. Before his death, he cursed the city, that everything will be destroyed soon and no one will be able to live within its area. The kingdom soon witnessed the killing of Ratnavati and all other inhabitants of the fort, in the war between Ajabgarh and Bhangarh. As it is considered haunted, the Government of India bound visitors to remain in the fort after sunset.
